Milan stars Christian Pulisic and Rafael Leao both took time out of their post-match interviews to send messages to Mike Maignan, who was taken to hospital as a result of a nasty head injury midway through the team’s 4-0 victory away against Udinese on Friday night.

The France international came rushing out of his penalty area in an attempt to head clear an Udinese ball in-behind, but smashed into teammate Alex Jimenez, and was briefly knocked out on the pitch.

Play was halted immediately, despite the fact that Udinese were through on goal. Maignan was placed on his side in the recovery position at one point, before being stretchered off down the tunnel.

Initial reports confirm that he was conscious and talking by the time he made it off the pitch, but has been taken to hospital for further tests.

Bizzarely, Jimenez, who also took a big blow to the head, was allowed to continue, but also needed to be substituted around 18 minutes later, coming off looking visibly dazed.

Speaking to DAZN after full-time, Pulisic and Leao both took time to wish Maignan all the best: “The most important thing is that Mike is okay. Our thoughts are with him,” Pulisic said.

Leao, meanwhile, said: “With what had happened before in Udine, it’s a strange environment. We came in focussed, having prepared well for the game after a good week of work.

“This victory, however, is for Maignan,” he concluded.

Matteo Gabbia later added: “Fortunately, Mike is fine. We all asked gthe doctor how he was, and he reassured us by telling us uthat he’s in the hospital for tests, but he’s doing okay. He’s a great captain, he also stuck his face into a dangerous situation.”
