Mexican giants Club América suffered a huge blow in the race at the top of the Clausura table after a last-gasp defeat against visiting Necaxa.

On a night where América's overall dominance of the fixture (10-9-5) would give fans confidence at Estadio Ciudad de los Deportes, Necaxa's back-to-back draws in their previous two meetings meant anything was possible in Mexico City.

Perhaps recent results provided a confidence boost for Nicolás Larcamón's Los Rayos outfit, with Necaxa opening the scoring in just the third minute thanks to Argentine midfielder José Paradela.

Larcamón's troops would double their advantage in the 31st minute through Diber Cambindo after VAR intervened, only to confirm there was no offside in the build-up before the Colombian rifled his effort home from close range.

América boss André Jardine would make three changes at the break in hopes of sparking a second-half comeback, and one of the substitutes would immediately flex his muscles with an assist when Aaron Martín turned provider for Álvaro Fidalgo to cut the deficit in half in the 50th minute.

Not finished there, Fidalgo would complete his brace nine minutes later to pull América back from the dead after meeting an inswinging cross from United States international Alex Zendejas to convert from inside the six-yard box.

The home side would have to sweat out the final ten minutes after Kevin Álvarez was sent off for a bad tackle on Necaxa defender Alejandro Mayorga, and it would ultimately cost them.

Colombian winger Kevin Rosero would put the final nail in the coffin when he bagged the winner in the ninth minute of stoppage time when his cross snuck past Luis Malagón to gift Necaxa all three points.
