AC Milan tried right until the end to convince Thiago Motta to join them instead of Juventus but they were ultimately unsuccessful, a journalist has claimed.

Milan announced this morning that Stefano Pioli will leave the club at the end of the current season, following a tenure of nearly five years. Tomorrow’s game against Salernitana, therefore, will be his last with the club.

There seems to be a bit of uncertainty regarding who will come in to replace him but it looks like Paulo Fonseca of Lille is the favourite at the moment, something which has draw a mixed reaction from the fanbase.

According to Juventus journalist Romeo Agresti of Goal.com, Milan tried until the final moments to overcome the Bianconeri and find an agreement with Motta over becoming their next head coach.

They were in contact with him until few weeks ago but by that point the former midfielder had given his word to Juventus and wanted to respect it, meaning that he will join them ahead of next season.

We reported earlier this month that talks had been resumed between Milan and Motta’s entourage as they wished to probe his availability, with the potential signing of Joshua Zirkzee also connected.
