Jamie Vardy may have decided on his next club following his Leicester City departure
Jamie Vardy could be set to join Celtic following his Leicester City exit.
The Foxes kicked off their return to the Championship with a comeback win over Sheffield Wednesday, before succumbing to a 2-1 defeat at Deepdale against Preston North End.
Vardy announced that he wouldn’t be signing a new contract with the Foxes earlier this year and now looks to have finally made a decision on where his future lies.
The 38-year-old ended his 13-year King Power Stadium residency at the end of the 2024/25 campaign and has been linked with countless clubs in the resulting period.
Birmingham City were reportedly keen on securing the striker’s services but weren’t able to add Vardy to their mouth-watering list of incomings this summer.
According to the Sun, the Leicester City icon has his “heart set” on a move to Celtic this summer.
Reuniting with former boss Brendan Rogers has been cited as a clear selling point for Vardy, who is now desperate to make the move happen.
The Scottish champions are reportedly keen to get the transfer over the line, with the attacker intent on playing football for another couple of seasons at least.
Celtic face competition from West Ham United, Brentford and Wrexham as per the report, but are Vardy’s preferred destination.
The veteran netted 200 goals in 500 outings for the Foxes, claiming the Premier League, FA Cup and Community Shield during his time with the club.
Despite having already enjoyed his prime years on a football pitch, Vardy proved that he is still fully capable of scoring goals at the highest level last term, bagging nine times alongside providing four assists in 35 Premier League matches as Leicester suffered relegation straight back to the Championship.
However, that season spelled the end of Vardy's iconic stay with the Foxes.
Vardy has enjoyed success with Leicester City that neither he nor the Foxes’ faithful would’ve predicted when he joined the club in 2012.
His goals have forever immortalised him in Leicester's history, but his last few campaigns with the club were far from favourable.
Two relegations in his final three seasons at the King Power isn’t how Vardy would’ve wanted to end his time with the Foxes, so he will be determined to cap his career off on a more positive note.
The slower pace of Scottish football will be kinder to Vardy’s aged physique and allow him to continue scoring goals in a competitive outfit.
Celtic will constantly be in the fight for domestic honours and will operate out of the Champions League, giving the striker another shot on the European stage.
