James Tavernier twist hints that Rangers captain will stay

James Tavernier may have produced the biggest ‘twist’ to date by rejecting Al-Ettifaq and Steven Gerrard’s advances, if today’s kit promotion is anything to go by.

In the newly-released material for the 24/25 home kit, Tavernier is front and centre of the promotional content, indicating that he, alongside Todd Cantwell, who is also prominent in the modelling, may be going nowhere after all.

We know for a fact that Tavernier received an offer, but while he loosely agreed terms with Gerrard’s Saudi giant, this didn’t mean he was accepting the offer, and we’ve been waiting on a confirmation once way or the other since.

If today’s developments are anything to go by, James Tavernier has turned the Saudi offer down and will go nowhere, remaining at RB for the new season and retaining the captaincy.

It had also been said team mate Cantwell sought an exit as well, with a reportedly strained relationship with the manager Philippe Clement, but it appears his position in the advertising regalia for the new kit suggests he isn’t going anywhere either after all.

It’s an interesting turn of events – it is very, very rare that any player part of the promotional kit launch ever then leaves – usually the models are picked very carefully, players least likely to move on or players who have outright rejected moves away.

And this would hint that Tavernier and Cantwell are remaining in Govan in a surprise twist that might divide some of the fans to say the least.

But of course, time will tell the truth on this one.
