Inter Milan came into this evening’s match with a chance to make history.

And in a sense, that’s what the Nerazzurri did. They lost a Champions League final by the widest margin of any team in history.

From the first minutes, Inter struggled to cope with the pace, intensity, and precision of Paris Saint-Germain.

The Nerazzurri chased shadows trying to win the ball back. Then when they were able to get possession, they looked sloppy and rushed.

Meanwhile, defensively Inter put up little resistance against a PSG team who were ruthless and direct.

The end result was a Champions League final loss that was very different from that of two years ago.

Whereas Inter had lost by the narrowest of margins against Manchester City in 2023, this evening they never had a hope of getting a result against PSG.

After the match, Inter midfielder Nicolo Barella admitted that “there’s massive disappointment.”

“Because the image that remains from this final cancels out some of what we’ve done to get here.”

“In football, as in life, it’s the final moments that stay with you,” Barella said.

“But I’m still extremely proud of the team, and of what we’ve put out on the pitch.”

“Then, there are trophies, unfortunately,” Barella rued.

The 28-year-old still maintained that “I’m extremely happy to be part of this group.”

“We’ve pushed to the maximum.”

“Congratulations to PSG,” Barella said. “They were stronger than us in every way.”

“Football is like this. Sometimes you get a smack.”

“We have to recover, though,” Barella insisted. “Roll up our sleeves, and try to bring Inter back to where it deserves to me.”

“We’ve always pushed ourselves to the max this season. In all competitions.”

“The win didn’t come. But I’m still really proud of the work we’ve done.”
