Italian football journalist Fabrizio Biasin insists Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi was keen to sign Mario Hermoso who eventually ended up at Roma.

The Italian champions were in the market on the lookout for a new left-footed defender, especially following Tajon Buchanan’s injury which left Alessandro Bastoni without a clear understudy (following Carlos Augusto’s return to the wingback slot).

Therefore, Hermoso emerged as a possible transfer target. The Spaniard was available on a free transfer.

The 29-year-old ended a five-year spell at Atletico Madrid last June. News reports linked him with a move to Appiano Gentile for several months.

However, Inter Milan owners Oaktree Capital insisted on signing a younger profile, someone whose transfer value could rise over time.

So in the end, the ownership refused to greenlight Hermoso’s acquisition. Instead, the Nerazzurri brought in 21-year-old Argentine defender Tomas Palacios from Independiente Rivadavia.

Nevertheless, Biasin tells how Inzaghi was dreaming of acquiring the services of Hermoso. He revealed as much during his appearance on QSVS via FcInter1908.

The Nerazzurri coach felt that the former Atletico star possesses the required attributes to fill in the role and bolster the defensive department.

However, Oaktree had a different vision, and it was their idea that prevailed in the end.

Mario Hermoso Would Have Been The Dream Signing For Inter Milan Coach Simone Inzaghi

For his part, Hermoso has recently signed for Roma on a free transfer. He will join a backline that has recently gained another prominent free agent in the shape of Mats Hummels.

On the other hand, Inter will be counting on Palacios to prove his worth at the club.

Biasin describes the youngster as a smart player, and is hoping to see him in action at San Siro soon enough.
