There are loud calls for Italy international Davide Frattesi to be given more game time after his strong performances for Luciano Spalletti during the international break, but La Gazzetta dello Sport suggest that Simone Inzaghi is likely to give the former Sassuolo midfielder more minutes ahead of a busy week.
Frattesi scored in both of Italy’s matches victories over the past week; in the 3-1 victory over France and the 2-1 win over Israel in Budapest.
He is now up to seven goals from 21 outings from his midfield role and has scored more international goals than any other player since Spalletti’s appointment last summer.
Despite his strong form on the international stage, and an excellent individual season with Sassuolo in 2022-23, Frattesi had to settle for a place on the Nerazzurri bench more often than not last season. In fact, he was only called upon as a starter on six occasions in Serie A last term.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the situation last season led to Frattesi asking Inzaghi what the plan was for the 2024-25 campaign, and whether he could expect more opportunities on the pitch.
Saturday’s report suggests that Frattesi is very much a part of Inzaghi’s plans moving forwards.
The Nerazzurri coach is likely to use Frattesi a lot over the next week, with tests against Monza, Manchester City and rivals Milan coming up over the next eight days.
It has not yet been confirmed which game or games Frattesi could start in, but La Gazzetta dello Sport are confident that he will be given a bigger role at club level after his impressive displays for Italy.
