Inter Milan are behind only Real Madrid in terms of having goalscoring midfielders after the arrival of Piotr Zielinski.

This is highlighted in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

Last season, Inter were able to rely on their midfield as a fairly regular source of goals.

Hakan Calhanoglu augmented his flawless record from the penalty spot with a few excellent long-range shots.

Kristjan Asllani, Calhanoglu’s deputy in holding midfield, got in on the act with his first ever goal in an Inter shirt.

The likes of Nicolo Barella and Henrikh Mkhitaryan, meanwhile, had relatively disappointing goalscoring seasons by their own standards, playing as box-to-box midfielders.

However, both Barella and Mkhitaryan still chipped in. And they scored key goals in big matches against opposition like Napoli and AC Milan.

Then, Davide Frattesi proved to be Inter’s true super sub. The former Sassuolo midfielder scored two added time winners over the course of the season.

Inter Behind Only Real Madrid For Goals From Midfield With Zielinski Arrival

Inter have brought in a new midfield reinforcement who has never lacked the ability to find the back of the net.

30-year-old Polish international Zielinski arrives at the Nerazzurri on a free transfer.

Across eight seasons with the Partenopei, and at Udinese and Empoli before that, the Pole has been a reliable goalscorer. His finishing and instincts around the box are among his most impressive qualities.

As the Gazzetta note, the arrival of Zielinski means that Inter now have a more prolific midfield than any team in Europe bar one.

Real Madrid still top that chart. That is perhaps little surprise considering the presence of the free-scoring Englishman Jude Bellingham.

But compared to other European giants like Manchester City and Bayern Munich, Inter’s central options lead the way for goals.
