Chelsea are closing in on a deal to sign Liam Delap – and could even announce it today.

But securing one striker isn’t slowing them down. If anything, rumours about interest in another forward have intensified alongside the Delap news.

Hugo Ekitike linked to Chelsea by Florian Plettenberg.

Talk of Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike being a major target continued, and this evening Florian Plettenberg has put out a Tweet which really points out how interested we are in the forward.

He says that we’re “very active” in the race for Ekitike , and that “further talks” have taken place since he last reported on the interest.

Frankfurt are in a strong position in terms of his contract and are demanding €100m for their rising star, but they are “not ruling out the possibility of him leaving.”

We would expect that price to come down significantly in the end, but as a starting point it shows how highly the German side rate their latest attacking talent.

Sources gradually warm up to idea of Chelsea double swoop

Matt Law made it clear that he thinks it’s a possibility we go for a second striker in the this window, although he didn’t sound 100% convinced. If Marc Guiu goes out on loan, it will mean 3 really good options competing for a spot in the team, as opposed to Nicolas Jackson taking the loan along this season.

Ekitike’s rise from Reims to the stars has had a couple of setbacks, but he’s scoring Champions League goals and for the France Under 21 team, as well as establishing himself in the Bundesliga. There are some doubts about whether he would live up to to the price tag, but it feels likely that one of the various interested Premier League teams takes the plunge this summer.
