Zlatan Ibrahimovic has confessed that Milan are still following France and Borussia Mönchengladbach midfielder Manu Kone, despite welcoming Youssouf Fofana to the club on Saturday and announcing that the Rossoneri squad is ‘complete’ for the summer.

The Rossoneri advisor spoke at Fofana’s official unveiling, following his €25m transfer from Monaco on Saturday.

Ibrahimovic admitted that it would be slightly more complicated to sign Kone now that Milan have Fofana, who tends to operate in a similar midfield role to his compatriot.

However, Ibrahimovic said that Milan are trying to build a squad that is competitive in both Serie A and the Champions League, which he feels requires players with international experience.

He did add that both ‘anything’ or ‘nothing’ could happen for Milan as they look to return to the top of the European game.

What Ibrahimovic said about Kone and new Milan signing Fofana

“Kone is a player we are following, one who has grown a lot and one we’ll have to see about” Ibrahimovic said, reported via Calciomercato.

“He made the cut for the Olympics, but we’ll have to see what we have in mind, but yes, we are following him. Of course the arrival of Fofana closes a bit of space (in the team) because they play in the same role.”

Ibrahimovic went on to explain that Milan want to return to competing for Champions League titles, as well as staging a challenge for the Serie A title.

“Ours is a team for both Italy and Europe, but perhaps slightly more built for Europe. That is where we want to return to the top. We have important players with international experience.

“The Champions League is the Champions League. Anything could happen, or nothing could happen.”
