Hull City have been linked with a move to bring Louie Barry back to the club from Aston Villa after his loan stint in the second half of last season.

It was reported by Hull Live earlier this week that the Tigers are in the race to sign the 22-year-old this summer.

It was claimed by Football Insider that the Premier League side are ready to cash in on Barry amid their current financial fair play concerns.

Barry initially joined Hull last January on a temporary basis, but featured just four times in the Championship, with injury issues preventing him from playing more.

When asked about bringing Barry back to the club, FLW’s Hull fan pundit Cameron Gibson made it clear he’d like to see the forward return.

He believes the 22-year-old is a massive talent, and that he has unfinished business with the Yorkshire outfit after injury derailed his initial loan stint.

“I have been a massive admirer of his since before he made his professional debut,” Gibson told Football League World.

“I was first aware of Louie Barry when transferred to Barcelona’s academy La Masia, and I’ve followed him ever since then.

“He moved onto West Brom and then has also moved onto Aston Villa, had loans at Stockport and now a loan at Hull City.

“I really wanted Louie Barry last summer, unfortunately for us he decided to go back to Stockport in League One.

“I’m not sure if the club were trying to get him at that point, but I was definitely interested in him for his amazing season the season before last at Stockport.

“Louie Barry is an exceptional talent, he obviously needs game time and last season at Hull City he would’ve been given the game but unfortunately an injury got in the way of him really being able to make his mark.

“So I do think there’s unfinished business there, and if a deal is to be made I would definitely welcome Barry back to Hull City.”

Louie Barry value claim made

Gibson claimed that Hull should look to negotiate for a loan with an obligation to buy, with the Tigers told to avoid spending too much to get a deal over the line.

“The club probably would be better off looking at a loan with an obligation to buy, but I don’t know how that’s going to work with Villa obviously needing to get cash in for financial fair play reasons, so let’s see how it develops,” he continued.

“But I think most fans would get on board with Louie Barry coming back to Hull City, and if it’s on a permanent transfer even better, just not at a stupid price.

“I think around the £5 million mark is the max I’d go at this moment.

“If we were able to get him on a loan with an obligation to buy in maybe that’s £7 or 8 million, then it’s something the club will have to look at — I’m not privy to the finances.

“But he is a player that I think has a big future and definitely has what it takes to do well in the Championship with his raw pace, dribbling and amazing shooting from inside and outside the box.

“I think if anyone was to watch his performances at Stockport they would get excited, so I would definitely be inclined to go for Barry.

“It just depends on Aston Villa, really, if they would do a loan with an option or obligation to buy.”

Hull will get their new season underway on 9 August with an away trip to face Coventry City.

Permanent deal for Barry could be great business

Barry was excellent in League One, and showed he is ready to be competing at a Championship level.

Unfortunately for him, injuries prevented him from really proving that during his initial loan spell with Hull.

However, that unfinished business could lead him to want to come back, and the Tigers could do very well to complete a deal to sign him permanently.
