The Kylian Mbappé saga was over this past summer window when the Frenchman left Paris Saint-Germain to join Real Madrid as a free agent. Nonetheless, while the announcement came late in the 2023-24 season, the players in the dressing room knew.

Before a match against Real Sociedad in the UEFA Champions League, Kylian Mbappé had apparently informed PSG’s management of his departure at the end of the season.

Eventually, it was made official when the Parisians lost in the Champions League final against Borussia Dortmund. In an interview with Canal Plus, Warren Zaïre-Emery spoke about when Mbappé told his teammates that he was departing after the season.

“He said he would give his all until the end of his contract, and I think that’s exactly what he did,” Zaïre-Emery said (h/t Le10Sport).

“It didn’t really bother us, although of course, when you have one of the best players in the world, you’d want to keep him at your club. He’s someone I really like and he’s a great person. You can see on the field that he’s obsessed with scoring, assisting, and making things happen. I need to follow his example in that regard.”

While the player and PSG parted ways this summer as they began new chapters, they remain connected. The two sides remain connected due to a financial dispute, and the latest news is that they will meet with a legal committee to resolve the matter.

L’Equipe reported this week that the Real Madrid star is scheduled to meet with the French Professional Football League (LFP) legal committee on September 11.
