An insight into the likely extent of the incoming absence being faced by Real Betis star Isco has this weekend been provided.
This comes after the midfield creator was this week dealt a major setback in his injury recovery efforts.
Sidelined since May after going under the knife to repair a fracture in his left fibula, the expectation was that Isco would mark his return to the pitch at some point over the coming weeks.
In turn, it came as a heavy blow for all associated with Real Betis when confirmation was forthcoming that, in fact, this will not prove to be the case.
Instead, the Spanish international, owing to unforeseen complications, was operated on for the 2nd time on Friday.
As per a statement on the part of Betis:
“Isco Alarcón has undergone a surgical examination of his left fibula fracture by Dr. Manuel Leyes in collaboration with Drs. Muela and Montilla (the club’s traumatology team) in Madrid. The fracture site has been cleaned and reinforced with a bone graft and the osteosynthesis plate has been replaced. The player will need an initial phase without impact and will subsequently undergo the rehabilitation phase.”
So, just how long is Isco expected to be unavailable for selection, as a result?
As per a report from Mundo Deportivo:
‘Although the doctors do not want to give a deadline, he will have to be away from the pitch for at least three or four months, so it is very possible that he will not be able to play again until 2025.’
