Real Betis got their first home win of their La Liga campaign on Friday night as they beat Leganés 2-0 at the Benito Villamarín stadium.
Despite the impressive win, Manuel Pellegrini’s side received a blow in the form of an injury, as one member of them squad will likely spend the rest of the season on the sidelines.
The man in question is William Carvalho, who the club confirmed to have suffered a torn Achilles tendon, an injury which is likely to rule him out for the remainder of the season.
It’s a big blow for the 32-year-old Portuguese midfielder, who has been at Real Betis for seven seasons now, and has regularly featured for the club since 2018.
The injury came in the first half, when the midfielder looked uncomfortable after making a pass and then immediately asked to be substituted.
A stretcher was needed to remove Carvalho from the field of play, around the 25-minute mark of the action.
The midfielder now will undergo surgery before commencing a lengthy recovery process.
