Bobby Thomas opened the scoring for Frank Lampard’s side, with the Rams getting back into things after just 12 minutes with an equaliser from Callum Elder.

Penalties for both teams meant it was 2-2 at the break, with it still all to play for, but goals from Brandon Thomas-Asante, Ephron Mason-Clarke and Victor Torp sealed all three points for the Sky Blues.

Ebou Adams had given John Eustace’s team a 50th minute 3-2 lead, but it ultimately finished 5-3 in favour of the visitors.

Despite the disappointing result, a packed Pride Park must have still enjoyed the entertaining clash, which produced more goals than any other fixture in the Championship last weekend.

According to attendance figures from the Second Tier podcast on X, there were 30,465 in attendance for Derby’s defeat to Coventry.

This was the best attended fixture in the entirety of the Championship last weekend, and it was the only clash in the second division to see over 30,000 through the turnstiles.

The second highest attended match was at Portman Road on Sunday afternoon, where two former Premier League sides faced off.

Ipswich Town took an early lead through a Taylor Harwood-Bellis own goal before Jay Robinson’s first ever senior goal levelled things before half time.

It finished 1-1 in Suffolk in front of 29,128 supporters, as the two teams shared the spoils in the sunny weather.

Despite the defeat, it will still come as a point of pride for Derby that so many were packed into their home ground for such an entertaining affair.

The third-highest attendance in the division last weekend came at Ashton Gate, where 24,721 people were there to watch the Robins earn a point in a 0-0 draw with the newly-promoted Charlton Athletic.

Biggest Championship stadiums in 2025/26

The biggest stadium in the Championship last season was the Stadium of Light, but Sunderland’s promotion now means that the mantle has been passed on.

The biggest ground in the second tier is now at Hillsborough, where Sheffield Wednesday can host up to 39,000 supporters.

However, issues involving the North Stand mean that it could be a while yet before they are able to make use of this kind of capacity, with only 21,683 turning up for the Owls' 3-0 loss to Stoke City on Saturday.

The North Stand can hold around 9,000 people, which will eat up a good chunk of their attendance for a full house.

It means that Middlesbrough are the de facto leaders in terms of stadium size in the Championship this year, with the Riverside capable of holding up to 33,000 supporters.

Pride Park is next in line, with Derby able to host up to 33,000 fans as well, meaning there were still some empty seats during their 5-3 loss to the Sky Blues.
