It has been a busy summer at Ewood Park, and Valerien Ismael had been battling to keep hold of captain Travis, as former boss John Eustace wanted to bring the player to Derby.

After plenty of speculation, and with Travis making it clear he wanted to move, a deal was agreed, with Travis linking up with Eustace once more at Pride Park.

Following confirmation of the switch, Travis took to Instagram to send a message to his new supporters, as he vowed to help take the Rams ‘back to where they belong’.

As you would expect, that brought plenty of responses, and Wharton was among them, with the England international simply stating ‘good luck skip’.

The Crystal Palace man came through the ranks at Rovers, and he spent a few years alongside Travis in the middle of the park for Blackburn.

Even though he left for the Londoners in 2024, the duo clearly had a good relationship, and Travis is likely to have been a positive influence on Wharton and his development, as he was looking to make a name for himself in the first-team.

Blackburn will be focused on helping Valerien Ismael ahead of transfer deadline

This is a nice message from Wharton to Travis, and there’s no denying the midfielder will be missed at Blackburn, as he has been a key figure for the club since making his debut in the 2017/18 season, and he ended up with over 250 appearances in a Rovers shirt.

Of course, the manner of his exit didn't go down well with some of the support, which you can understand, but the situation was dragging on, and it’s good for all parties that it has now been sorted, with Travis now concentrating on helping Derby.

For Blackburn, attention is now on trying to get a few more players through the door, as it’s clear the squad is short in certain areas.

After a very disappointing start, the convincing 3-0 win at Hull City last time out shows there is quality in the ranks at Blackburn, but Ismael will be pushing to bring in reinforcements as he tries to build a successful long-term project with the club.
