Santiago Gimenez has been linked with AC Milan and although a move never took place this summer, the player hasn’t given up hope. In a recent interview, he revealed that the Rossoneri tried to sign him and that a move would be a dream.

When it was announced that Olivier Giroud would be leaving Milan, several strikers were linked with the club and Gimenez was one of them. The Mexican had also been mentioned in the past and the interest clearly remains, even if the Rossoneri now are focused on Tammy Abraham.

Speaking to ESPN, Gimenez revealed that Milan made an attempt to sign him on deadline day, even sending an offer to Feyenoord. He also stated that it would be a dream come true to move there one day, with the ‘door still open’.

“The last day of the transfer market was very intense for me. Especially the last hours. AC Milan became very concrete for me, but the deal could not be closed due to the short time and the asking price of Feyenoord.

“Milan is a dream club for me. I grew up with players like Ronaldo, Ronaldinho and Kaka. In the end, it didn’t happen, but the fact that there is a lot of interest already gives you the feeling that you are important. For me, of course, the door to Milan is still open,” he stated.

It remains to be seen if Milan will make a new attempt down the line, but the feeling is that the attacking department is complete with Alvaro Morata and Tammy Abraham. Luka Jovic could perhaps leave, but Gimenez would likely not want to be a third-choice striker.
