Speaking in the aftermath of his side’s 1-1 Euro 2024 group stage stalemate with Switzerland, Germany head coach Julian Nagelsmann revealed that Rüdiger had picked up a thigh injury:

“Rüdiger has a bit of a problem with his thigh. We’ll have to see what happens. I hope it’s nothing serious. We’ll see. That could be quite problematic.”

The days since have seen the 31-year-old sit out Die Mannschaft training, as his compatriots prepare for a Last-16 showdown with Denmark this weekend.

On Thursday, those of a German persuasion will in turn no doubt be interested to hear of an update surfacing on Rüdiger’s fitness.

In a statement released by the DFB, it has been confirmed that the former Chelsea man was once again absent from group activities this afternoon.

His status to face Denmark on Saturday night, as a result, remains up in the air:

“Antonio Rudiger did not participate in the German national team’s group training on Thursday as well. The player is still receiving treatment several times a day from the medical staff, after he suffered a strain in the posterior muscle of the right thigh, and he is in the second stage of the recovery process. His participation against Denmark will be determined before the match.”
