Real Madrid defender Fran Garcia shared his thoughts following his team’s narrow 3-2 victory over Leganes, highlighting the significance of the result during a demanding period.

The match took place immediately after the international break, a time when many of his teammates had been heavily involved in international duty, making it more challenging to maintain peak performance.

“After the international break, when many teammates played a lot of minutes, it’s always a little bit harder. Getting the three points is always important,” he told Real Madrid TV.

Supporting Mbappe

Fran Garcia also touched upon the impact of Kylian Mbappe, whose performances have been a talking point since his arrival.

Despite initial doubts about his ability to find the net consistently, Mbappe has steadily proven his worth.

Garcia expressed his satisfaction with how the French forward is contributing positively to the team, both in terms of his goal-scoring ability and overall influence on the squad.

“I said it at the beginning. There was a lot of speculation about his arrival, that he wasn’t quite right in front of goal, but it was only a matter of time before he proved it.

“I’m happy for Mbappe, for the team and for everything he’s helping us with.”

Personal satisfaction

Discussing his own situation, Garcia acknowledged that this season holds particular importance for him. He feels more integrated into the squad and is determined to make the most of the opportunities he receives.

Every minute on the pitch matters to him, and his focus remains on delivering his best performances to help the team succeed.

“This year is important for me, I’m more involved and I’m trying to take advantage of it to give my best for the team. Whenever I have minutes, I want to give my best for me and the rest of my teammates,” he said.

Andriy Lunin’s take

Meanwhile, Real Madrid’s goalkeeper Andriy Lunin, who was filling in for the injured Thibaut Courtois, shared his perspective on the ongoing debate surrounding refereeing decisions.

Choosing not to dwell on controversial calls, Lunin emphasised the importance of controlling what the team can influence—playing well, maintaining order, and keeping clean sheets.

“I don’t want to talk about the referees’ decisions. We have to win these games without help. I mean, we have to solve the games by playing well, playing orderly.

“Try not to concede goals, the simple things. To win like this so as not to get into the world of referees,” he noted.
