Manchester City announced their fourth departure from the Etihad Stadium on Friday with the exit of Sergio Gomez to Real Sociedad now confirmed.

On the arrivals front however, there was very little to write home about, although there remains an expectation that it is only a matter of time before Manchester City kick into action on the subject of new signings this summer.

The exit of the Spaniard brings an end to his two-year stay under Pep Guardiola, joining the La Liga club in a deal worth up to €10 million with the Premier League champions retaining a healthy sell-on clause in the agreement.

Elsewhere, and in a move that remains unknown as to whether it is connected to arrivals, departures, or contract renewals, super agent Jorge Mendes is said to be on his way to Manchester to meet with City officials early next week.

Here is your daily and comprehensive round-up of everything reported around the Etihad Stadium and Manchester City’s summer transfer business on day 28 of the ongoing window!

Arrivals

Manchester City are unlikely to join any race for Dani Olmo this summer whether his release clause is or isn’t triggered. (Simon Bajkowski, Manchester Evening News)

It isn’t clear how many new faces there will be in the Manchester City squad in addition to Savio next season. There has also been little movement on a back-up for Rodri. (Simon Bajkowski, Manchester Evening News)

Departures

Sergio Gomez has left Manchester City and joined Real Sociedad. The deal is worth up to €10 million, with City retaining a 30 per cent sell-on clause. (Official)

Rodri on his future: “I try to analyse all decisions I make, to have a criterion. And, above all, go through the processes. I’m very, very happy in England. I think I’m in one of the best clubs in the world, that’s obvious, and I’m happy. I have a three-year contract and, when the time comes, I’ll see.

“But I’ve said before with regard to the short term. I don’t like or it doesn’t make much sense to look at long term. Spain is my country, Madrid is my city, at home. When I went to Manchester, I remember a conversation I had with my parents; they asked if I was sure because I was going to another country, another culture. In the end, one is happy when one is sure of things. If I return, it would be with conviction.” (AS)

Joao Cancelo ‘will almost certainly’ be an FC Barcelona player again next season, with the player’s position forcing Manchester City into changing their thinking and exploring other options. Cancelo has absolutely refused to consider any other option than a return to Barcelona, turning down approaches from Italy, with other transfers around the world treated in the same manner. (Sport)

Al Nassr have ended their interest in signing Ederson. (City Report, X)

Yan Couto is a player Borussia Dortmund are looking for, and the player can also ‘imagine’ a transfer to the Bundesliga club. Talks have taken place with the player’s side, with Dortmund wanting to spend €20 million to €25 million. (Patrick Berger)

Julián Álvarez has asked to leave Manchester City. The Argentine rejected an improved contract and a one-year extension at the end of last season, and is now wanting Etihad officials to give him a ‘logical selling price’. (Marcos Benito, El Chiringuito)
