Southampton captain Jack Stephens seems close to a return after being sidelined for a month. The 31-year-old was spotted in training ahead of an important matchday against Ipswich Town.
While it feels provoking, it makes sense to say Southampton hasn't been markedly better than Ipswich recently. In fact, some might critique that the Premier League newcomers have been a cut above.
Even then, Southampton with an immense Premier League history, cannot be considered inferior when against Ipswich Town.
And that is what makes the upcoming Premier League matchday, Southampton against Ipswich Town, a premier showdown.
Given Southampton's dire state, it might be a golden opportunity for them to bag crucial points here. Favorably, they approach the matchday with a massive morale boost.
Recently, club Captain Jack Stephens was spotted in a behind-the-scenes video by Southampton's official channel. The 31-year-old looked quite improved in his injury recovery, as he practiced in the team drills. Seen along with Jan Bednarek, Stephens' condition would have surely excited the club fans.
What could have been a better way to start preparations for the Ipswich game than Stephen's comeback? But, still, the Englishman's participation in the matchday looks dicey.
Returning from a training knock, boss Ivan Juric won't want to force his comeback. Especially, in such a high-stakes battle directly. Fighting against relegation, Juric might not want the Saints to undergo last-minute changes against Ipswich.
Also otherwise, it might be wise to let Jack Stephens take time in his recovery to return at his best.
Not to forget, the 31-year-old looked off his game before being injured. Having picked up 2 yellow cards and 2 red cards in just 10 appearances, Stephens had a daunting start to the 2024/25 season.
Thus, though it intrigues the Saints fans, it could be still a few weeks till Stephens returns.
In the meantime, let's hope a Saints win against Ipswich pushes them to a better stage for Stephens to lead over.
