Almost every season, FC Barcelona is expected to compete as a heavyweight in each and every competition. Regardless of the club’s financial concerns or recent competitive history, La Blaugrana remains a side with big expectations. As a result of said expectations, however, Barcelona is a very exclusive side as well.
Not every player is deemed good enough to play for the Catalan giants, and those that do must prove themselves each and every day. Even right now, some of the talented players in Hansi Flick’s squad are struggling to have an impactful season or become guarantees for the German coach.
Some stars are getting new renewal deals due to their importance to the team, whereas others are still looking to prove themselves. Unfortunately, however, not every Barcelona player finds the opportunity to showcase their quality too abundantly or too consistently.
Hector Fort is one such player, and he has remained restricted to the bench most of the time primarily due to the excellent season that Jules Kounde is having. The Frenchman remains Flick’s top choice, and it is clear to see why that is the case.
As a result, however, Fort has been unable to make a significant mark by himself. Possibly after looking at this situation, Italian side Como sent a proposal to the player but, as highlighted by Mundo Deportivo, the 18-year-old Spaniard ended up rejecting the idea and has decided to stay at Barcelona.
Managed by Cesc Fabregas, Como is also home to former Barcelona captain Sergi Roberto. However, while the veteran may have decided to leave for that particular destination, Fort remains convinced that he has more to offer to La Blaugrana and that he is already at the club of his dreams.
While there is no guarantee that Fort will end up having a more significant role this season, considering that he has only played 11 games so far this season and has been a starter in only two of them, he may get more opportunities. With a lot of the season still left to be played, rotations will be necessary.
On the other hand, however, Flick has been almost as reliant on Fort as his predecessor, Xavi Hernandez. The Spanish coach also gave Fort some opportunities, but the fullback played a total of ten games across all competitions last season as he made his debut.
