The Red Dragons have agreed a deal to sign West Ham midfielder Andy Irving, FLW understands.
Wrexham have agreed a deal to sign West Ham United midfielder Andy Irving, Football League World has exclusively been informed.
The Red Dragons look to be in for a busy end to the summer transfer window.
Phil Parkinson has made a number of eye-catching additions to his squad so far this summer, with the likes of Callum Doyle, Nathan Broadhead, Lewis O'Brien and Conor Coady all signing up to the Racecourse revolution.
However, with money seemingly still there to be spent, Wrexham may well be about to make another key addition ahead of the 1 September deadline.
Football League World has exclusively been informed that Wrexham have agreed a deal to sign West Ham United midfielder, Andy Irving.
It was reported earlier this month by journalist Pete O'Rourke that the Red Dragons had moved ahead of Scottish giants Rangers in the race to sign the 25-year-old.
However, a new revelation earlier this week made by journalist Alan Nixon via Patreon claimed that Millwall were also eyeing up an agreement with their bitter rivals for the Scotland international.
Nixon stated in that report that despite being available for around £3.5m this summer, Irving had rejected a potential switch to Wrexham because of personal reasons.
Celtic, Koln, Borussia Mönchengladbach, Stuttgart, Sturm Graz have all been credited with an interest too, as well as clubs in Italy's Serie A.
But FLW has now been informed that it is indeed Wrexham who are set to win his signature, with a deal in place between the two clubs.
Wrexham have made moves to bolster their midfield ranks this summer, with deals for the aforementioned O'Brien and Liberato Cacace bolstering their options in the middle of the park.
Parkinson does still have other proven EFL performers in central midfield too, with the likes of Oli Rathbone, George Thomason, George Dobson and Matty James respectively.
However, whilst they do indeed have plenty of strength in depth there and lots of solid and good players to choose from, Wrexham could potentially still be lacking the presence of a real top-draw central midfielder.
In Irving, they could find themselves one, but that's not a guarantee either given his very small sample size to draw from in English football.
Indeed, his 2023 summer deadline day arrival from Austrian side SK Austria Klagenfurt wasn't afforded an official announcement by West Ham, and because he was loaned straight back out to his former employers for the 2023/24 season, there was a fair number of Irons fans who weren't aware that he'd even signed for them upon making his Premier League debut for the club at the start of last season.
In total, Irving has so far made just 12 first-team appearances for the Hammers, with 11 of those coming in the Premier League, which potentially shows that the Irons do have a considerable amount of faith in his abilities.
He's failed to score or provide a single assist for the club in that time though, which only adds to the enigma surrounding him.
On the one hand, he's played Premier League football and is a full Scotland international, whilst also having flashed his quality in Scottish and Austrian football too and has some top clubs from across Europe seemingly interested too.
On the other, he still has the feel of being a raw talent despite being 25, and hasn't yet shown that he can produce in English football.
However, for a club like Wrexham who have a clear burning desire to reach the very top of the game, taking a calculated gamble on a player like Irving could see them pull of a superb signing, and if it doesn't work out, then the financial firepower they have behind them should ensure it's one they could afford to take a hit on at around £3.5m potentially.
