Exclusive: Vieira Set for Bundesliga Switch With Arsenal Talks Ongoing

Arsenal are reportedly in talks with VfB Stuttgart over the potential permanent transfer of Fabio Vieira, as the Bundesliga side step up their pursuit of the 25-year-old midfielder.

According to Just Arsenal Sources, the German club are exploring a deal to sign Vieira this summer following his loan spell at FC Porto last season. Discussions are said to be ongoing and, while no agreement has been reached yet, negotiations between the two clubs continue regarding a possible permanent move for the Portuguese playmaker.

Vieira arrived at Arsenal in the summer of 2022 with high expectations after a €35 million switch from Porto. However, he has struggled to make a consistent impact under Mikel Arteta, with injuries and limited opportunities stalling his progress. In total, he has made 33 appearances for the Gunners.

Although Vieira’s contract with Arsenal runs until 2027, the player is open to a move as he is no longer part of Mikel Arteta’s plans for the upcoming season. In addition to Stuttgart, West Ham United are also keeping tabs on the situation.

Bundesliga lifeline for Vieira after Premier League struggles

Stuttgart’s approach is for a permanent deal rather than a loan, signaling their intent to add the creative midfielder to their squad ahead of the new campaign.

Stuttgart see Vieira as the ideal replacement for Enzo Millot, who recently joined Al-Hilal. The club intends to reinvest the €28 million received from Millot’s transfer to facilitate the deal. Arsenal, in turn, is demanding a transfer fee of around £20-25 million. Vieira’s annual salary in north London exceeds €2 million, a factor that could play a key role in negotiations.

Earlier this summer, reports suggested that Porto were keen to retain Vieira but were unable to afford a full-time transfer.

West Ham were also reportedly interested in Vieira, and have placed the player on their shortlist, but it now appears that Stuttgart are leading the chase.

Arsenal must decide on Vieira’s long-term future

Vieira’s future at Arsenal has long been under scrutiny, with many fans and pundits questioning whether he could adapt to the demands of Premier League football. A move to Germany could represent a fresh start and a more suitable environment for the talented but underused midfielder.

Vieira’s next destination will largely depend on Arsenal’s valuation and the player’s own career aspirations. Stuttgart’s determination and their financial flexibility following Millot’s sale make them strong contenders to finalise the transfer.

With talks still ongoing, Arsenal must now weigh up whether to cash in on Vieira or give him another chance to prove himself in north London.
