Former Lazio striker Felipe Caicedo only had positive things to say about Inter Milan boss Simone Inzaghi ahead of Monday’s big showdown.
The Biancocelesti will host the Nerazzurri in the closing curtain of the Serie A weekend. The Monday night clash will feature two of the five clubs from the leading horde. And while Inter’s status as reigning champions will always place them as the favorites on the vast majority of reliable online betting websites, it is still expected to be a close-tight affair at the Stadio Olimpico.
Moreover, this will be a special affair for Inzaghi who spent more than 20 years at Lazio. The 48-year-old first joined the Italian capital side as a young striker in 1999.
In 2010, the Italian called it a day, but remained at Formello as a coach. After finding success at the club’s various youth ranks, he kept climbing the ranks until assuming the role of caretaker manger at the first team following Stefano Pioli’s sacking in April 2016.
Lazio president Claudio Lotito then signed a deal with Marcelo Bielsa, but the controversial Argentine walked away after two days. Hence, the management decided to hand the reigns to the young tactician on a permanent basis, and the rest, as they say, is history.
Inzaghi managed to prove himself as an excellent tactician during his five-year spell at Formello.
This eventually landed him the Inter hot seat when Antonio Conte decided to leave the club in 2021.
The Piacenza native has thus far collected six trophies with the Nerazzurri. The most significant is undoubtedly last season’s Serie A title.
Therefore, Inzaghi’s old pupil Caicedo has no doubt about the manager’s credentials.
The Ecuadorian bomber, who shined under Inzaghi during their time together at Lazio, describes the boss as “world-class”.
“Simone and I talk every now and then. He helped me a lot on my journey,” said the retired striker in his interview with Gianlucadimarzio.com via FcInterNews.
“I’m happy for his achievements, he deserves it. As a coach, I consider him a world-class.”
The two men then briefly reunited at Inter between January and June 2022, but it proved less fruitful. Nevertheless, he still cherishes the overall experience.
“It was a very nice experience as I had the pleasure of playing with great men, before being footballers.
I found a great group and a great fan base. I had a good time even though I wasn’t able to play as much as I would have liked.”
