Henrikh Mkhitaryan feels that against Juventus, Inter Milan paid the price for not taking their chances in front of goal.

The 36-year-old spoke to Italian broadcaster DAZN, via FCInterNews, after the match. He rued the Nerazzurri’s wasteful performance in the 1-0 Serie A loss.

Inter Milan slumped to defeat in the Derby d’Italia against Juventus this evening.

And it was a much different sort of match than the first meeting this season between the Nerazzurri and the Bianconeri.

That had been a wild 4-4 draw. This time around, a single goal was enough to do it for Juventus – much more in keeping with a typical scoreline in the Derby d’Italia.

But it was not necessarily as cagey a match as the scoreline would suggest.

Particularly in the first half, things were end-to-end at times. And Inter certainly had their share of chances.

Meanwhile, while Inter were chasing the game after Juventus scored in the second half there were also a few passable opportunities in front of goal.

Inter midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan admitted that “in the first half we weren’t able to take advantage of the opportunities we created.”

“Then in the second half Juventus improved the way they were playing.”

Mkhitaryan reflected that “Having so much confidence and thinking we were playing well hurt us, because then we started to concede too much.”

“We didn’t have to. But that’s the way football is.”

“If you don’t take advantage of the chances you have, you pay for it,” said the former Arsenal and Manchester United midfielder.

“I can only speak for myself,” continued Mkhtaryan. “But maybe the problem is that because we know how strong a team we are, we relax too much.”

“Then we go out onto the pitch not focused.”

“We think we can win matches, and in the end we pay,” Mkhitaryan went on.

The Armenian insisted that “There are no physical or technical things that we’re missing.”

“But maybe the fact that we’re such a strong team disturbs us.”
