Inter goalkeeper Yann Sommer took to social media after undergoing surgery for a thumb fracture on Friday and his teammate Denzel Dumfries replied ironically: ‘Please don’t cross your fingers.’
Inter will be forced to cope without their starting goalkeeper, Sommer, for almost one month after the Switzerland international suffered a thumb fracture earlier this week.
The experienced keeper underwent surgery on Friday and sent a message to the club and their fans from his hospital bed.
“Thank you for all your support and recovery wishes,” Sommer wrote on Instagram.
“I’m fully focused on my rehab and can’t wait to be back on the pitch. All fingers crossed for the game this evening. Forza Inter!”

Among the many comments in the post, one surely stood out: from Sommer’s teammate, Dumfries.
The Dutch international replied to Sommer with a funny message: “Please don’t cross your fingers, bro. Let it rest.”
Sommer has played 25 Serie A matches this season, conceding 24 goals and keeping 11 clean sheets. In all competitions, Sommer has made 35 appearances, conceding 28 goals and keeping 19 clean sheets.
He will be replaced by second-choice keeper Josep Martinez, who joined the Nerazzurri from Genoa last summer but has only made one appearance this season.
The Spaniard will make his Serie A debut with the Nerazzurri this evening in a home match against his former club.
