Alexander Meyer came into the side at short notice and is now set to keep his place on Tuesday after scans revealed the extent of Kobel’s injury.

Ruhr Nachrichten and Sky both report that the Swiss stopper has now been ruled out of the Champions League second leg.

Kobel excelled in the first leg, keeping a clean sheet in Dortmund’s 1-0 win before being sent to the Yellow Wall by his team-mates to receive the acclaim of the Dortmund fans.

The Bundesliga outfit will also be without Karim Adeyemi, the goalscorer from that first leg, as he recovers from a muscle strain.

Neither player has been ruled out of next weekend’s derby clash at Schalke.

Dortmund head to Chelsea having put together a run of 10 wins from as many games in 2023.
