Chelsea have entered a crucial summer. After securing their ticket to the Champions League, the Stamford Bridge club want to clean up past mistakes. Enzo Maresca’s project requires solidity, character and firm decisions in the market. There is no more room for experimentation.
They need players with immediate impact and European experience. Goalkeeping is still an area that generates doubts. Robert Sánchez, despite his qualities, has not been convincing, and the board knows it. And in football, when an unexpected opportunity comes along that makes sporting and financial sense, you have to move without delay. That seems to be the case now.
According to Sky Sports and journalist Kaveh Solhekol, Mike Maignan has already informed AC Milan that he will not renew his contract, which expires next summer. The French goalkeeper has expressed his desire to leave the club and join Chelsea.
The Rossoneri are facing their last chance to earn a significant fee for him. The goalkeeper has been a key player for the Italian side since his arrival and feels he has come full circle. Chelsea are watching closely, knowing that the player is keen to join and that the situation may allow for a favourable negotiation.

The 29-years-old would be an absolute coup for the Londoners. Not only because of his current level, but also because of the leap he would mean for the defensive structure of the team. He is a goalkeeper who transmits calm, commands respect in the box and responds in big games.
Maignan has brilliant reflexes, great reading of the game and a technical ability that allows him to build from the back, something key in the football proposed by Maresca. In addition, his natural leadership can elevate the character of the dressing room. He is not just a goalkeeper; he is a guy who gives confidence to the defensive line, who orders, who shouts, who imposes.
But there is another angle Chelsea should value: Maignan’s experience in high-pressure games. At Milan he has lived through heavy nights in the Champions League, duels for the Scudetto and moments of internal turbulence. Not every player carries that weight and grows with it, but Maignan does, and that is worth gold.
Signing him would not only improve the goalkeeping, it would inject personality in an area where Chelsea have failed since the departure of Mendy. If the opportunity presents itself and the price is not excessive, the Blues must act. A club with real aspirations cannot pass up a goalkeeper of this level.
