El Clásico remains one of the most iconic and intense rivalries in world football. While many believe it reached its peak during the era of Pep Guardiola and José Mourinho, the fixture has regained its edge in recent seasons.
Last season, Barcelona dominated Real Madrid under the leadership of head coach Hansi Flick. Including a pre-season friendly, Barcelona defeated Carlo Ancelotti’s team on five separate occasions, delivering a clean sweep across all meetings. Such a run of results was bound to provoke a strong reaction from the Madrid-based club.
In response, Real Madrid made significant changes. They parted ways with Ancelotti and appointed Xabi Alonso as the new manager. The club also strengthened its squad by signing Trent Alexander-Arnold, Dean Huijsen, Franco Mastantuono, and Alvaro Carreras.
Barcelona, however, haven’t stood still either. The club’s summer transfer business has been swift and focused. They signed Joan Garcia and brought in Marcus Rashford to inject pace and directness on the wing.
Another notable addition is Swedish wonderkid Roony Bardghji, who has impressed during the pre-season tour of Asia. While Flick is yet to make a final call on the teenager’s long-term role, Bardghji’s performances have given plenty of reasons to be optimistic.
Midfielder Dani Olmo, who is entering his second season with the club, spoke about the squad’s summer activity during an interview with Cadena COPE, as cited by MARCA. He was assertive in his belief that Barcelona had outperformed their rivals in the transfer market.
“We have also reinforced ourselves, and better,” said Olmo.“Have we reinforced better? Yes,” he added confidently.
Olmo, the marquee signing from last summer, endured a frustrating first campaign due to injuries. But he is now fully fit and enjoying a complete pre-season. He started in the recent friendly against FC Seoul, signaling Flick’s intention to reintegrate him as a key figure in midfield.
Beyond just comparing squad strength with their rivals, Olmo stressed the importance of internal focus.
All teams make changes during the transfer windows, but we don’t care who they sign or bring in. We need to focus on our own squad.
Barcelona’s strength lies in more than just new signings. The club continues to rely on its unique footballing identity, deeply rooted in the values of La Masia.
The academy has consistently delivered first-team talent and helped the club avoid extravagant spending in the market. This summer, the rise of Jofre Torrents has been one such example, giving the coaching staff a reliable left-back option from within the club.
With a solid core, exciting new additions, and a healthy Dani Olmo ready to contribute, Barcelona will look to maintain their dominance over Real Madrid in the upcoming season. The team knows that success will come by staying grounded, playing their football, and trusting the process.
As the 2025–26 campaign approaches, the question remains whether the Catalan giants can replicate their Clasico dominance once again. If Dani Olmo’s words are anything to go by, Barcelona certainly believe they can.
