City head to Australia this summer to prepare for the upcoming Barclays Women’s Super League season.

Gareth Taylor’s side will also be competing for silverware in the Women’s Champions League, FA Cup and Continental Cup in 2024/25.

In order to be in the best shape possible for that, we will play two matches in Perth in August, starting with a meeting with fellow WSL side Leicester City.

Depending on how that result goes, we will then either face Paris Saint-Germain or West Ham United a few days later.

Tickets are now available on general sale here, while Cityzens can also keep across any updates around our pre-season tour by signing up here.

It’s our first trip to Australia, but there are other links with the vast country.

We’ve had plenty of Socceroos and Matildas players wearing sky blue through the years, including these names below…

Mary Fowler

The creative attacker has already excited both City and Matildas fans in her still developing career.

At just 21, Fowler is still learning her game but is doing so having already played more than 50 times for her country and spent four years in European club football.

After shining in Australia’s own World Cup last summer, Fowler has seen a boom in popularity in her homeland and is now one of the faces of a promising side on the world stage.

In Manchester, Fowler came into her own in her second campaign at the Joie Stadium and played a key role in an excellent season that saw us narrowly miss out on the title.

Alanna Kennedy

A strong and imposing defender, Kennedy’s skill and composure on the ball makes her a fine example of a City centre-back.

After starting her senior career with Sydney FC in 2010, Kennedy represented several of the biggest clubs in her homeland before moving to the US for spells with Western New York Flash and Orlando Pride.

Her first club in England was Tottenham Hotspur, but the Joie Stadium has been her footballing home since 2021.

In that time she’s played 49 times for City as we’ve built one of the strongest defences in the Barclays Women’s Super League.

All this time she has been a mainstay of her national side, with 122 Matildas caps now to her name.

Hayley Raso

Speedy winger Raso came to City in 2021, just like Kennedy, having impressed in her first season in England with Everton.

In two seasons, she played 47 times for Taylor’s team and scored nine goals before departing for Real Madrid last summer.

Alex Robertson

On the men’s side, 21-year-old Robertson is currently part of City’s squad and also a fully-fledged Australia international.

He initially joined City at under-15 level before signing professional terms in 2020 and enjoying loan spells at Ross County and Portsmouth.

Having been born in Scotland, Robertson is eligible for Australia through his dad, who was born in Sydney and played once for Australia himself.

He has now earned two caps for Australia, with substitute appearances in friendlies against Ecuador and Argentina.

Danny Tiatto

The Australian to have played for City the most, Tiatto was a no-nonsense left-back and midfielder who represented the Club between 1998 and 2004.

A tough tackler and never one to give up, Tiatto became something of a fan’s favourite as he enjoyed a rollercoaster ride up and down the divisions before leaving City stable in the top-flight.

In the end, he played 158 times for Joe Royle and Kevin Keegan’s City before moving on to Leicester City.

Internationally, he played 25 times for Australia.

Danny Allsopp

A striker, Allsopp played 38 times for City between 1998 and 2000, including 29 games in our 1998/99 season which famously ended with play-off final victory over Gillingham.

He scored six goals in total before leaving for Notts County, where he enjoyed his most successful spell in England. Allsopp made three appearances for Australia’s senior side.

David Oldfield

Born in Perth, Oldfield moved to England at a young age before spending his entire career in the country.

The striker played 30 times in two seasons between 1988 and 1990, scoring nine goals. However, it was at his next two clubs, Leicester and Luton Town, that he made the biggest name for himself.

Jason van Blerk

A midfielder also capable of dropping back into defence, van Blerk spent the 1997/98 season at City and played 21 times.

His year at Maine Road came in the middle of a decade in English football, while van Blerk also represented his nation 27 times.

Simon Colosimo

A defender and occasional midfielder, Colosimo made six substitute appearances and one League Cup start in our 2001/02 season, with City being his first club in Europe.

At international level, he played 26 times for Australia between 1998 and 2010.
