Chelsea have submitted an official bid to Manchester Utd for Jadon Sancho ahead of Friday’s transfer deadline.

The West London side have proposed an initial loan deal for the out-of-favour winger, with an obligation to make the move permanent. Sancho had been in talks with Juventus over a loan switch to Serie A, though the Italians were reluctant to meet Manchester United’s demands.

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Chelsea have submitted an offer similar in terms to the proposal from Juventus but with a ‘higher’ total package.

Sancho, who supported Chelsea as a child, is keen on the move to Stamford Bridge and a return to his native London after an unhappy spell at Old Trafford.

The 24-year-old signed for the Red Devils in a £72.9m move from Borussia Dortmund in 2021 but failed to live up to expectations in the Premier League, having emerged as one of Europe’s most coveted talents in the Bundesliga.

He was loaned back to Dortmund in January, following a public fallout with Erik ten Hag, who questioned the player’s application in training. Sancho is now seeking a permanent exit and is understood to be attracted to the project at Chelsea.

Why do Chelsea want to sign Sancho?

Chelsea’s active summer of recruitment is set to go down to the wire with an official offer for Sancho.

Enzo Maresca has informed Raheem Sterling that he does not feature in his plans and Sancho is viewed as an ideal replacement.

Chelsea are already well-stocked with wingers with Pedro Neto, Cole Palmer, Noni Madueke, Mykhailo Mudryk and Christopher Nkunku all capable of playing in the wide roles. However, there will be some at Stamford Bridge who believe Sancho can fulfil his potential in London.

At Borussia Dortmund over two spells, Sancho provided 130 goals and assists in 158 appearances across all competitions.
