Now that Wesley Fofana’s injury problems have ruled him out from ever being a reliable Premier League player in the long run, it’s pretty clear that Chelsea are getting into gear to try and sign an alternative this summer.

The Blues aren’t short of defenders – they’ve got loads. It’s just that none of them are really standing head and shoulders above the others. The whole group of them have strengths and weaknesses, but none looks like they’re even going to reach a truly world class level just now.

The best thing to do is clear out a few of them and spend that money on one player better than any of them. And that’s just what it seems like the plan is to do. Axel Disasi was loaned out in January and we’d imagine the plan is to move him on permanently. The same is likely for Renato Veiga.

Wesley Fofana, Tosin Adarabioyo, Benoit Badiashile, Trevoh Chalobah, Levi Colwill and Axel Disasi in a montage of Chelsea defence and defenders.

Today, a report from TBR Football has added two of the current regular starters to that list, however.

Apparently we’re looking to move on Tosin Adarabioyo and Trevoh Chalobah in order to raise funds to sign Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace. Soon to enter the final year of his contract, the England regular will apparently be available for less than £50m.

Because Chalobah is home grown and Tosin signed on a free, both would be “pure profit” for PSR purposes.

We all know about Chelsea’s interest in Dean Huijsen, and we’d imagine he might still be our favourite option. But he’s going to be very tricky to sign, given the competition, and it’s natural that we’re advancing our interest in Guehi simultaneously.
