In a recent report, journalist Pete O’Rourke claimed that Chelsea are set to rival Manchester City for RB Leipzig talent Xavi Simons. It has been stated that the Blues are now facing competition from Pep Guardiola’s side in pursuit of the Dutch playmaker this summer.
The 22-year-old had an impressive campaign at the German club recently as he put in a series of promising performances for them in the final third. Simons scored 11 times and earned eight assists in 33 appearances for RB Leipzig last season across various competitions.
The Dutch attacker proved his worth as a good performer in the final third by averaging 2.09 shots per 90 minutes in the Bundesliga. He was even tidy when distributing possession in the opponent’s half after completing 78.6% of his attempted passes in the German top tier (stats via fbref.com).
His current contract at the German club will run out in the summer of 2027. Hence, the Blues would have to make a convincing offer if they want to win the race for his services.

Simons is a good dribbler with the ball at his feet and has got the eye to play a few decisive passes on the offensive end of the pitch. He can strike the ball with power from long range and can contribute by scoring and creating his fair share of goals up top.
The Dutch sensation mainly operates as an attacking midfielder but can also play as a wide player on either flank if asked to do so. However, there are some concerns over whether he would be able to handle the physical side and the high intensity of the Premier League.
We can expect Simons to bring more firepower to Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca’s frontline. He has what it takes to fight for regular first-team football at Stamford Bridge this season.
At 22, Simons has got the potential to be a future star in English football. Thus, he would be an excellent option for the West London giants to consider in this transfer window. All in all, Maresca would do well to get a deal over the line for the Dutch talent this summer.
