Celtic will be ‘pretty hopeful’ that manager Ange Postecoglou will remain at the club for the foreseeable future, journalist Pete O’Rourke has suggested to GiveMeSport.
The Australian tactician has impressed throughout his time at Parkhead and has been linked with several Premier League jobs in recent weeks and months as a result of his good work.
Postecoglou has most recently been linked with the vacant manager’s position at Leeds United following their decision to sack Jesse Marsch.
The 57-year-old was recently asked if he sees his long-term future at Celtic following the speculation surrounding his position.
“I don’t know what that means. Every decision I make for this football club is for the best of this football club – it’s not about me, it’s not about me trying to achieve something,” said Postecoglou.
“Every job I’ve done, I’ve done as if I’m going to be there forever. Every decision I ever make I’m making as if I’m going to be here forever, but I won’t be.”
Postecoglou is still on a 12-month rolling contract at Celtic, though, meaning certain sections of the club’s hierarchy and fanbase may have concerns over his long-term plans.
When asked about Postecoglou’s situation at Celtic, O’Rourke admitted that the lure of the Premier League is likely to be an attractive proposition.
He said: “Obviously, Celtic have seen it before. Brendan Rodgers was lured away back to the Premier League from Celtic, so they know that the Premier League is where most managers want to be right now and that they are not able to compete financially with them.
“So, I think for now, they're pretty hopeful that Postecoglou will stay, but I'm sure if he continues to have success at Celtic, these links with a move to the Premier League won’t go away.”
Postecoglou arrived at Celtic from J-League outfit Yokohama F. Marinos as a relatively unknown figure within British football back in 2021.
The likeable figure had claimed one Japanese title, four Australian titles, and one Asian Cup during his time in charge of his national team before making the switch to Celtic Park.
winning the Scottish Premiership and the League Cup crown.
Celtic are in a good position to defend both pieces of silverware this time around and are also still in the Scottish Cup.
