Milan will face Napoli on Tuesday evening and Paulo Fonseca has some important decisions to make regarding the starting XI. One of them concerns the right-back role, with Davide Calabria and Emerson Royal battling it out.

As a result of the Bologna postponement, Milan have had a few more days of training at Milanello, which Fonseca considers positive as he hasn’t had much time with the players lately. That being said, given the tight schedule, the Rossoneri wanted to play the game at all costs.

In any case, one of the many positions that Fonseca must decide for the Napoli game is right-back. Calabria has recovered from his injury and is at the manager’s disposal, while Emerson Royal has been the starting right-back for many games now.

Of course, whoever starts will be up against Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who was rested for most of the game against Lecce. Milan fans have fond memories of Davide Calabria’s marking of the winger in the 2022-23 season. At a time when Kvara seemed unstoppable, the Rossoneri captain managed to keep him at bay three times in just a few weeks.

On the other hand, he has just come back from injury and Emerson Royal has done okay in recent weeks, even if he looked a bit tired (understandably so) against Club Brugge earlier in the week. In short, Fonseca faces a far from obvious decision and one that will be quite important as well.
