JJ Watt has seemingly addressed Burnley head coach Vincent Kompany potentially departing to join German giants Bayern Munich, inferring that the saga has given him an adrenaline rush similar to that of when he was playing in the NFL.

Who'd have thought that a manager could get relegated from the Premier League and then get pursued by one of the most successful clubs in world football right after? Well, that is what has happened to Kompany and the Clarets.

Their poor 2023/24 season was by no means a reflection of the team that trounced the Championship and went up at a canter. The manager persisted with his style, although many of the players changed. It didn't work, but his persistence seems to have won him the position as Bayern manager.

Sky Sports Germany have reported that there is a verbal agreement between the former Manchester City captain and Bayern Munich for him to succeed Thomas Tuchel, with Fabrizio Romano claiming that all that needs to be sorted between the two clubs is the compensation fee.

Kompany's final season at Turf Moor didn't go the way that many fans, and the likes of part-owner Watt would have wanted, or expected it to, but he will leave behind memories of a lifetime.

The eyes of the Burnley hierarchy will now turn to what's next, and Watt has shared a bit of insight into how he has been feeling throughout this process.

JJ Watt's Burnley FC 'adrenaline' claim

The former American Football star, and his wife, former US women's soccer national team player Kealia Watt, invested into the Lancashire side in 2023, when they were on the brink of promotion back to the top flight.

They have experienced promotion and relegation since then, and another twist in their Burnley tale has come about through their manager's expected departure.

Watt revealed the effect that being involved with the club has on him, during this time of uncertainty and change, on X. He said: "People often ask if European football ownership helps fill the adrenaline void from playing… There are definitely days 😂."

It appears that despite only having a small investment in the Clarets, Watt is as connected as everyone else to the ongoing saga involving Kompany, with the Lancashire outfit now set to have to search for his replacement.

The next steps for Burnley FC as Vincent Kompany looks set for Bayern Munich

The obvious thing for the club to focus on now, assuming there is no major roadblock in Bayern's pursuit of Kompany, is who will be their next boss.

Coventry City manager Mark Robins and Birmingham City coach Ashley Cole are said to be on the list of potential replacements for the Belgian.

There is one other niggling issue that will need to be sorted. The future of Kompany's assistant, Craig Bellamy, is uncertain too. He is reported, by talkSPORT, to be another name that Burnley are considering to be the next manager.

The Welsh international was described as "a crucial piece of the jigsaw" in the Belgian manager's backroom setup, and he may want to bring Bellamy with him to Munich.

Bayern Munich's risk and reward Vincent Kompany decision

Without context, the usual, and appropriate response, of the supporters who follow this institution of footballing excellence would look at them appointing a newly relegated manager to be their boss and think that the club have gone mad.

The initial optics aren't great, but they believe in his philosophy and style, and that he can implement it at the Allianz Arena.

Two other contributing factors make this a potentially very smart move. His German is very good, after just two seasons with Hamburg before joining Man City. To learn the language that quickly shows great intelligence.

His personality is another big plus. He is a leader of men, and, after the relatively poor season Bayern have just had, they need someone to guide them in the right direction.

Kompany may not have managed and won things at the highest level, but he has as a player, and those in the dressing room, like Leroy Sané and Harry Kane, will respect him. That is big for this Bayern side.
