Fiorentina midfielder Edoardo Bove underwent surgery on Tuesday to have an internal defibrillator fitted just over a week after his on-pitch collapse during the Serie A match between La Viola and Inter.
Reports on Monday confirmed that the 22-year-old would have a removable, internal defibrillator fitted at the Careggi hospital in Florence, where Bove has stayed since the incident on December 1.
According to updates from Italian news agency ANSA, the operation was carried out at the Careggi facility on Tuesday morning. Fiorentina, as a club, have not yet commented on the matter.
According to reports over the last 24 hours, the defibrillator device is removable, which means that it will be down to Bove and his doctors to decide whether to keep it in permanently or take it out at a later date.

The Italy U21 midfielder collapsed on the pitch 17 minutes into the Serie A match between Fiorentina and Inter on December 1. He was taken away in an ambulance to the nearby Careggi hospital in the city of Florence, which was roughly a 10-minute ride away.

Outlets in Italy later reported that he had suffered a cardiac arrest. Bove was admitted to intensive care, but was ‘awake and alert’ the following morning.
He has since left intensive care, but has remained at the Careggi hospital since the incident occurred on December 1.
