Goalkeeper Yann Sommer has suffered a thumb injury ahead of Inter Milan’s Serie A matches against Genoa and Napoli.

The Nerazzurri confirm that the 36-year-old underwent medical tests today. These revealed a fracture to his right thumb.

Inter Milan goalkeeper Yann Sommer has started in every one of his team’s matches so far this season in Serie A.

The former Bayern Munich and Borussia Monchengladbach veteran has also started every match in the Champions League.

Sommer has only dropped out of the starting eleven for one match. That was in the Coppa Italia against Udinese in December.

However, Sommer’s streak of starts in Serie A is set to come to an end.

Today, Inter have confirmed, the Swiss underwent tests with the club’s medical staff.

And it’s bad news for Yann Sommer. The 36-year-old has suffered a fracture in his right thumb.

Further tests will be necessary to show the exact severity of the injury.

However, what’s abundantly clear is that Sommer will not be able to play in Inter’s next match. They face Genoa in Serie A on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the following weekend Inter take on Napoli in a potential title-decider.

Then, before the March break Inter face a crunch Serie A clash with Napoli as well as a Champions League round of sixteen tie against either Feyenoord or PSV.
