Bayern Munich’s powerful performance pushes Celtic’s stock higher

Bayern Munich last night demonstrated the power and ability they possess by swatting aside fellow Bundesliga side and closest domestic challengers Bayer Leverkusen 3-0 at the Allianz in the first leg of their last 16 champions league clash…

That makes our result against them a fortnight ago in the same venue all the more impressive. Yes we didn’t win on the night and indeed over the two legs, but by coming so close to beating them shows how far we’ve come as a side at this level.

It doesn’t make the pain we suffered at losing out so late any easier to bear, but we can take a great deal of comfort that we ran a European superpower so close, so nearly defeating them on their own turf and narrowly losing over the two legs.

We’ve got to take solace in that and whilst our European adventure is over for another year, we can build on it and aim to go further next year. Coming so close and competing with a great side like Bayern proves we have what it takes to compete at the elite level.
