Rodgers reaction to away fans at Glasgow Derby return

Sky Sports Scotland caught up with the Celtic manager this afternoon to get his thoughts on the breaking news that away fans will be in attendance at the Glasgow Derby fixtures…

This comes after both Celtic and the Ibrox club’s heirarchy were locked in discussions about he reintroduction of away allocations once again to the derby match.

It’s been a long time coming and has defintely been overdue, with the fixture just not the same with the big away section. Although it won’t be as it was beforehand, it is still a welcome sight to see a credible amount of supporters being able to attend the game. For years it was reduced to around 700 and it didn’t really do anything for it fixture as a spectacle, but the recent four-percent of capacity decision should see a marked improvement on that, particularly for atmosphere.

Celtic Park

Celtic Park will have the pleasure of being the first stadium to host away fans for this massive clash and that one will take place on Sunday, 16 March. Brendan Rodgers spoke of his delight at the away allocations being restored to somewhere inbetween the old several thousand and more recent one of just hundreds, and insisted that it is good news all round for everyone involved with the fixture.

Speaking to Sky Sports Scotland this afternoon, he said: “Everyone welcomes it because the game is a wonderful spectacle. It’s everything with the supporters in there, so to have both back is great news for the fixture, for the players and also and ultimately, for the supporters because that’s who we play for.”
