It was a night to remember for Raul Asencio at the Santiago Bernabeu.
The Real Madrid academy graduate delivered an assured and mature performance in the heart of defence during the victory against Athletic Club, earning a standing ovation from the home fans when he was substituted in the 83rd minute.
The young centre-back played a crucial role in helping the team secure a clean sheet, standing firm against a physical and energetic Athletic attack.
After the match, Asencio shared his thoughts with Real Madrid TV, visibly emotional but grounded in his commitment to the team.
“We’re very happy. It was an important game and it was tough. The team worked together and we deserved the win,” he began saying.
With Real Madrid still chasing two titles, every result counts, and the youngster was keen to underline how crucial the victory could be for the team’s momentum.
“The win gives us confidence, and we needed it. It will help us and give us that extra boost to keep working. Hopefully, from now on, it will be nothing but wins.”

Asked about the thunderous applause he received from the Madrid faithful, Asencio couldn’t hide his gratitude.
“It is incredibly motivating every time I play here, and to receive an ovation like that is indescribable. Hopefully, there will be more. I will give everything for the club and my teammates.”
He also praised Federic Valverde, who lit up the night with a spectacular long-range goal that reminded everyone of his knack for scoring from distance.
“We are used to his shots and they amaze us. We enjoy them every day. He’s a great player and a wonderful person.”
Finally, Asencio reflected on the importance of the defensive solidity shown by the team. “Keeping a clean sheet gives us confidence. We all work hard for it.”
With seasoned defenders like David Alaba and Eder Militao struggling with injuries, Asencio’s emergence could not have come at a better time for Real Madrid.
Calm under pressure and driven by loyalty to the club, his maturity defies his age, and the ovation at the Bernabéu may just be the first of many.
