Brentford head coach Keith Andrews says he expects want-away forward Yoane Wissa to remain at the club come the closure of the transfer window.

Wissa has yet to feature for Brentford this season since Andrews’ appointment but returned to training last week after the Bees rejected a second bid from Newcastle worth up to £40m for the DR Congo international.

After a first bid had come in worth £30m, Wissa had flown home early from their pre-season camp in Portugal in July, after which he threatened not to play or train for the club again if they did not sanction his move to the north east of England.

The 28-year-old did not play in the 1-0 win over Aston Villa on the weekend, and Andrews confirmed the forward will not be involved in the Carabao Cup tie against AFC Bournemouth on Tuesday, but still expects him to remain at the club come the conclusion of the transfer window.

“Exact same where we were pre-Villa, he (Wissa) won’t be involved, Andrews said. “It’s just a decision based around what I think is best for the group. Understanding of the situation, understanding of the market, what goes on. It’s going on at every single club up and down the land.

“The disruptive nature of it, the focus is on the group so Yoane won’t be involved. As far as I’m concerned there’s been no movement in a way and I fully expect Yoane to be here come next Tuesday.

“Yoane’s situation, the understanding of it, the focus is on the team when you get close to games. The nature of it, emotions around it. What happens behind closed doors we keep it there.

“My stance hasn’t changed. I knew there would be interest in Yoane, when you score that many goals in the Premier League and play as well as he did.

“He’s built his career at this football club over the last four years where he’s grown in stature and presence. I’ve not really changed my message, it’s how I genuinely feel.”
