After the unfortunate defeat against Real Madrid, FC Bayern’s first title-less season in twelve years comes to an end this weekend. For Bayern veteran Thomas Müller, however, this is no reason to bury his head in the sand. The 34-year-old is looking ahead, is looking forward to the European Championship at home and has formulated a clear goal for the coming season: the 2025 Champions League final at home in the Allianz Arena.

Müller wrote on his LinkedIn profile that the defeat in the Champions League semi-final still hurts: „It’s bitter that the refereeing team in the Bernabeu cauldron lost sight of the big picture shortly before the end and blew the whistle on Matthijs de Ligt’s goal due to an alleged offside.“

„We don’t know how extra time would have ended,“ the 34-year-old continued. „But the game would certainly have gone down in the history books given the extraordinary course of events. I would have loved to have reached the Champions League final for the fifth time.“

But Müller wants to draw strength from this bitter defeat to reach the Champions League final with his FC Bayern at home in the Allianz Arena in 2025: „In the last few weeks around our home games in the premier class, I’ve once again realised just how big a place in the final would be for the whole FC Bayern family and the region around Munich.“

Müller is looking forward to the European Championship and wants to finish runners-up

The veteran is particularly looking forward to the summer, because „the European Championships finally start in June on home soil. That will be great!“. The 34-year-old was called up to the provisional DFB squad on Thursday.

After losing out to England in the round of 16 at the last European Championship in 2021, Müller is looking forward to a successful tournament with the DFB team.

The international is now looking ahead and is determined to win against TSG Hoffenheim next weekend in order to challenge Bayer Leverkusen in the Super Cup at the start of the new season. Because: „I don’t want to experience a German Supercup without FC Bayern Munich!“
