Manchester United target Dayot Upamecano could reportedly be tempted to leave Bayern Munich this summer.

The Red Devils finished the season on a fantastic high winning the FA Cup at Wembley last Saturday but the defensive heroics in this game were sadly an exception to the rule in this chaotic season.

United let in an astonishing 85 goals in all competitions and with Raphael Varane and most likely Jonny Evans on their way out of the club, defensive reinforcements are a must.

Everton star Jarrad Branthwaite is one of the most discussed options while United also clearly hold an interest in Jean-Clair Todibo and Tosin Adarabioyo.

French publication L’Equipe report that the Red Devils could also be interested in bringing in another familiar face.

Upamecano and United have been synonymous with each other for years as the Red Devils attempted to sign the player when he was 17 years old.

The now 25 year old could once again be on United’s radar.

The French paper states, “could Dayot Upamecano be tempted to leave Bayern Munich? The hypothesis cannot be excluded. After three years in Bavaria, the 25-year-old defender, under contract until 2026, could be tempted to start a new phase elsewhere.”

“He has real popularity, particularly in England. Manchester United are looking, for example, for a central defender.”

However, a move will not be easy for the Frenchman to come by.

Newly appointed Bayern Munich boss, Vincent Kompany, “is fully counting on the former Leipzig defender. The Belgian will now have to convince him of the benefit of staying in Bavaria”, as Bayern are much happier to let Kim Min-Jae or Matthijs De Ligt leave. Interestingly, these are also two players United have been heavily linked with in the past.

However, it was reported in April that Bayern’s interest in Jonathan Tah could open the door for them to allow the Frenchman to leave the club.

Upamecano has been described as a “man-mountain” but also “blessed with the sort of pace to rival the niftiest forward”, a potent combination to keep Premier League forwards in check.
