£20M? Rangers fans are getting excited about Hamza Igamane

The Rangers hype machine has definitely begun for Hamza Igamane, after the Moroccan striker impressed during his maiden two cameos, at Parkhead then a bright performance on as a sub against Dundee United.

Manager Philippe Clement has been at pains to stress how unready Igamane was for top-flight football, and that he could be months away from playing. In truth, whether that was overly cautious, or just covering for the fact he came to Ibrox injured (which he did, incidentally), we are now months later seeing the former FAR striker finally beginning to turn out for our team.

And there can be little doubt what fleeting glimpses we’ve witnessed have been impressive.

In that late cameo v Celtic while he only attempted two passes, he nailed both, while also securing a dribble and winning a foul.

Against Utd even better – a shot, a key pass (the excellent through ball for Lawrence), and a dribble, managing 16 touches in his 25 minutes on the field. He ‘looked the part’.

Which means the hype machine is ready for him.

His old coach Sven Vandenbroeck who gave him his chance at RABAT believes the lad has all the tools to become a superstar, to earn Rangers millions in the future.

We agree that he does, but just because a player has the attributes in theory, doesn’t mean anything, but it does mean the right coaching and attitude could make it happen if the stars align.

It did happen with Alfredo Morelos, he was briefly a £16.5M striker, pity the club turned that offer down.

Que sera.

But Igamane?

Let’s not lay that level of expectation and pressure on the boy just yet – he’s 21 and looking good, all we can ask is he starts to deliver, to score, and to continue to develop.

And in good time maybe we’ll have a £20M striker again.
