Chelsea’s summer is moving forward nicely. Players by player, they’re working their way down their list of needs both in terms of incomings and outgoings.

At Manchester United they had perhaps an even longer to-do list, and while they’ve made some big attacking signings, they’re still stuck with a major issue in their out-box.  Alejandro Garnacho wants to go and they’re happy to let him go – but nobody is moving for him, despite Chelsea’s interest being noted time and again.

CaughtOffside’s piece on the transfer today says that the Red Devils wanted €80m for their Argentine winger when asked last season. But a total lack of bids has led them to drop that to €60m already. It’s still hard to see Chelsea wanting to pay that.

They’re well covered in those attacking positions following a summer of acquisition. They will still be interested in Garnacho as a market opportunity – but at €60m he’s still going to struggle to build any resale value.

With no rush on our end, we can sit tight another couple of weeks and see if United start to get really desperate when the prospect of keeping an unhappy Garnacho in the squad (and not being able to spend the money they could potentially get for him) becomes really real.

Garnacho saga may just be beginning

With so much of our incoming business already done, we expect Garnacho talk to dominate headlines right up until the deadline.

Perhaps we could see a sort of late pseudo-swap deal if we still have players on our books who we want to get rid of come the deadline and if Garnacho hasn’t found a move by then?
