Zinedine Zidane addressed the media on Tuesday afternoon prior to their Copa del Rey fixture on Wednesday night.
Los Blancos will be aiming to avoid a massive upset when they take on Alcoyano.
Among the topics he addressed were …
“Alaba’s potential arrival has nothing to do with Lucas [Vázquez] and Sergio’s [Ramos] renewals. But I’m only focused on tomorrow’s game.
“I understand the questions about Alaba and that you’ll want to talk about it but I’m sorry, as a coach I’m only interested in our next game.”
“He’s very motivated. Soon he’ll show his old self and the player that we all know he is.
“I don’t doubt him for a second. He’s training well and we’ll see him soon.”
“At the end of the day, players are the ones who decide where they want to play. But I don’t want to talk about players who don’t belong to us.”
“Jović is 23 years old and he’ll be a great player for Real Madrid, the same is true for all the players. But there’s strong competition here.
“You can’t always blame the coach if they don’t play. The players need to prove that they deserve it. I’m glad he scored two goals the other day though, I’m really happy for him and wish him the best of luck.”
“It is always my fault, as always. The easy thing is to say that the coach is to blame. It is difficult in Madrid, I experienced it as a player too.
“There are moments when players choose to stay here because they know what they have and there are times when they must leave to show their quality.
“There is always going to be strong competition here so the coach isn’t always to blame.”
“Until the end of the window, anything can happen. Look at Jović. I love all my players a lot and will always count on them. If something happens, then we’ll see.”
“We saw that Alcoyano did in the previous round. They knocked out a top division side and it isn’t the only time in the competition that’s happened.
“It is also true that I haven’t won the cup yet, thanks for reminding me! But that’s what makes it more exciting.”
