Real Zaragoza fans tuning in on free-to-air television will face a change in how they watch their club’s games next season, following the news that the Gol Play channel is ceasing its terrestrial broadcasts from 10 June. The move comes after Gol Play, operated by Mediapro, has struggled with both financial difficulties and a lack of top-level broadcasting rights, leading to a decision to halt its presence on traditional Spanish digital television.
Despite the closure, open access to one match from each LaLiga Hypermotion (Segunda División) round will continue for viewers—just not by the usual means. Instead of watching on standard television, fans can follow Real Zaragoza’s selected fixtures for free via online streaming on the GolStadium website. Importantly, the open-access game, chosen each matchday, will remain available without the need for registration or payment.
For those preferring to watch on a television set, the alternative is to use a smart TV application. If your device supports it, the GolStadium app can be downloaded and will stream the same free-to-air Segunda matches, offering a similar experience to viewing via DAZN or Amazon Prime Video-style platforms.
Subscribers to paid TV providers such as Movistar+ or Orange TV will notice little difference, as open-access broadcasts will continue to be carried through these platforms. The situation only changes for those relying on the free terrestrial signal—traditional TV sets without smart capabilities—who will now need to make the switch to digital streaming.
The transition marks a notable shift in how Spanish football is delivered to fans, particularly for historic clubs like Real Zaragoza, whose large traditional television audience will need to adapt to more modern online platforms to catch the free open-access fixture each round.
